Herrington Carmichael has been providing legal services in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and surrounding areas since the 1840’s.

We have invested in the best experts and administrative support staff. We work hard to present opportunities for their development so that they not only continue to offer clients the best service but we also retain them throughout their careers. Our trainee programme is one of the strongest for retention of lawyers in the UK and we are proud to take a longer-term approach to the individuals joining our firm.
Today we are listed as a ‘Leading Firm 2024’ by the Legal 500 and listed in The Times ‘Best Law Firms 2023 & 2024’. Herrington Carmichael has offices in London, Farnborough, Reading, and Ascot.

1840s
Our firm’s history can be traced back over 180 years as solicitors in Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire as High Street law firms.
1935
In 1935, Aldershot Solicitor Walter Herrington and Camberley Solicitor Graham Carmichael merged their legal practices, giving us the name we are now known for today – Herrington Carmichael Solicitors.
1970s
It was in the 1970s when Charles Church walked into our Park House office in Camberley in his muddy wellies to speak to Senior Partner Roy Vickers and told us how he had just bought his first house and now he wanted us to be his conveyancer. This was the start of Charles Church Developments and of our Real Estate team.
1983
Adrian Job becomes Managing Partner of the then Herrington & Carmichael. Adrian’s vision was to move from small offices in a High Street capacity and move to one big office as the firm started growing.
1991 - 2005
Acquired Haye and Reid (Wokingham).
Merged with Pocknell Crick (Aldershot) in 1995.
Acquired Fielding Griffith (Baghot) in 2000.
In 2003, merged with Southorns in Wokingham.
Merged with Stanbury’s in 2004, in Fleet.
Merged with Metcalfe and Mather in Bagshot in 2005.
2004
Herrington & Carmichael move from Park House across to Watchmoor Business Park in Camberley.
2006
Herrington & Carmichael restructures from a partnership to LLP, a new structure for law firms, HC is one of the first law firms to make this move.
2008
Recession shakes the globe, resulting in a shift in strategy. This marks a pivotal point in the trajectory of HC – foundations established during this time allowed accelerated growth later on.
2009
Adrian Job steps down as Managing Partner and appoints his successor as Frankie Tierney, the firms first female MP.
2015
Herrington & Carmichael undergoes a huge rebranding. This was a step towards a more modern firm in keeping up with the time and visually alluding to the firm’s commitment to modernisation and technology.
2019
Frankie Tierney steps down as Managing Partner and hands over her reigns to Yavan Brar, our current Managing Partner.
2020
Covid-19 hits and HC adapts quickly to accommodate the change in the working environment. New processes and systems are implemented that allowed the continuation of legal work. A huge factor in our accelerated growth. Amidst the pandemic, we moved to bigger offices in Watchmoor Park as we had run out of space.
2022
Herrington Carmichael acquires Bonnetts Solicitors, a successful firm in Ascot and Whitton.
2023
Due to growth in terms of people and finance, Herrington Carmichael had once again outgrown the Watchmoor Park offices. We moved to Brennan House in May 2023.
Best Law Firms 2024
Herrington Carmichael has once again been named in the Times Best Law Firms. We were first listed in 2023 and have once again made the Best Law Firms list for 2024.
