Intellectual Property

Intellectual Property encompasses a vast and diverse array of business property from software and other copyright materials, to designs and logos and inventions and processes. The laws surrounding Intellectual Property are divided between a number of core areas:
  • Copyright;
  • Trade Marks;
  • Design Rights;
  • and Patents.

We work with those organisations that wish to build a brand or protect the expression of an idea, a process, a design or a product. Creating an idea with a commercial aim is an exciting time and the ability to be creative whilst protecting the commercial aspects means that the strategy and solutions need to be dealt with by those with experience to ensure you retain the valuable rights that your business requires. We take a pragmatic and pro-active approach towards helping many organisations and individuals do this and once they have those rights in place to continue to protect them. It is important to identify these rights and we frequently advise clients on the existence and pro-active protection of their rights.

Having worked with household and international brands, we are recognised as being well positioned to advise clients on their Intellectual Property Rights concerns.

We have strong experience in advising on technology licensing arrangements, regularly advising clients on the terms of software licences being granted or taken out by their business. We support and advise our clients to ensure they retail or receive crucial rights, to ensure that they are not unnecessarily restricted by licence terms and that, where required, they can continue to effectively exploit the rights they have developed.

Our experience extends to the design commissioningwhere we support our clients and negotiate terms of assignments and advise on, prepare, negotiate and review contractual documents on behalf of our clients to ensure they benefit from the rights they requrie to exploit and secure the designs they have paid for. This relates to IT and software-based commissions, but also clients in the manufacturing or design sectors.

Having an intellectual property right, registered or contractually protected, is only the first stage. We are also able to offer pro-active monitoring services on notifying and warning off others on the misuse of your intellectual property. Of course if things do no go to plan and you experience a breach of your rights, we are also well placed to advise and take suitable steps to protect your brand and Intellectual Property Rights.
