College Work Experience at Herrington Carmichael
The Liftoff Programme is Herrington Carmichael’s College Work Experience partnership with The Sixth Form College Farnborough. Designed exclusively for Year 12 students, Liftoff gives students the opportunity to spend time inside a full-service law firm, learn more about legal careers and understand how different teams support clients in practice.

Supporting local talent
We are proud to be part of the Farnborough community and want to support young people in our local area to access meaningful work experience. Liftoff is an early introduction to the Firm and to the legal profession. It is not a guarantee of future employment, but it can help students understand the options available and prepare for future opportunities.
Through our close partnership with the Sixth Form College Farnborough, we are proud to offer these structured placements. This programme is open to Year 12 Law students as well as non-law students with a genuine interest in exploring professional legal or business support operations.
What you will experience
A structured one-week unpaid work experience placement during the February half term. Students may be placed across our Property, Business or Private Client practices. Placement areas will vary each year depending on availability and business needs.
- Spend time with colleagues across different departments in the Firm
- Learn about the daily responsibilities and goals of various legal teams
- Observe how legal transactions, cases, and advice are prepared in practice
- Attend live meetings, internal training sessions, or team planning discussions
- Complete a realistic mock legal research and analysis exercise
- Receive constant guidance, feedback, and support from an assigned Supervisor
- Take part in an interactive careers session detailing routes into the legal profession
Who can apply?
Year 12 Students
Must be currently studying at The Sixth Form College Farnborough.
Academic Stage
Open to Year 12 Law students and Year 12 non-law students interested in legal careers.
Selection Process
Applications and candidate selections are managed directly through the College.
