Supporting your route to qualification
At Herrington Carmichael, we are committed to investing in future legal talent. We know that qualifying as a Solicitor requires time, focus and financial commitment, which is why we provide structured support for future Trainees completing the Solicitors Qualifying Examination.
Our SQE funding approach
The Firm provides a substantial financial contribution towards the LLM SQE1 & 2 Programme course fee.
The BPP LLM SQE1 & 2 programme
The Firm has partnered with BPP in supporting future trainees through the LLM SQE1 & 2 Programme. This full-time program commences September or March annually, preparing and supporting our future Trainees for their respective Training Contract start dates the following year.
What future Trainees are responsible for
Candidates remain responsible for remaining course fee balances and the official SRA assessment fees.
SQE1 Assessment
Estimated fee of £1,934 set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
SQE2 Assessment
Estimated fee of £2,974 set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
Support before your Training Contract
Before you start your Training Contract, we aim to keep in touch and help you stay connected to the Firm. This may include:
Welcome Sessions
Welcome sessions with the Firm and your peer trainee cohort.
HR Check-Ins
Regular catch-ups with HR during your BPP SQE studies to monitor progress.
Trainee Workshops
Interactive workshops designed to prepare you for life in the practice.
Firm Social Events
Invitations to firmwide social events, seasonal parties, and network mixers.
Firmwide Updates
Regular briefings on firm growth, transactions, and internal newsletters.
Repayment Agreement
This protects the Firm and the Trainee and is clearly explained before commencing.
Different routes into the Firm
We understand that future Trainees may be at different stages of their SQE journey when they receive an offer.
Some future Trainees will join us before starting the SQE and will be supported through the BPP LLM SQE1 & 2 Programme.
Others may already be studying independently or may have completed part of their SQE preparation before receiving a Training Contract offer. Where a future Trainee is already self-studying for the SQE, the Firm will discuss alternative arrangements to support that individual.

Our SQE support reflects that commitment. It helps future Trainees access structured preparation, reduces part of the financial barrier to qualification and supports a stronger transition from study into practice.
It also forms part of our wider Early Careers approach, which includes our Legal Intern Programme, Training Contracts, Insight Day, Apprenticeship routes and pre-Training Contract support.
