Global sporting event: contractual support across 14 Jurisdictions

The Herrington Carmichael commercial team were instructed to assist our client, a global service provider, with various contractual arrangements relating to an international major sporting event.

The Client

A global service provider with a growing international footprint, engaged in delivering staffing and operational support for major global events.

The Challenge

The client was appointed to support a major international sporting event and needed to rapidly scale its operations across multiple jurisdictions. This involved forming partnerships with staffing agencies in 14 countries, each with its own legal and regulatory landscape. The client required a robust and adaptable contractual framework to govern these relationships and ensure compliance across borders.

Our Approach

The Herrington Carmichael Commercial Team was instructed to provide comprehensive legal support, including:

  • Drafting a flow down template agreement, to be used with partner agencies internationally.
  • With contracts in 14 different jurisdictions, as part of the project we were required to work internationally by negotiating with businesses around the globe as well as instructing and managing local counsel in various jurisdictions.
  • We were required to advise on various international elements including international data transfer requirements.
The Outcome

The client successfully established a legally sound and scalable contractual framework, enabling it to deliver services efficiently and compliantly across all jurisdictions involved in the event. The project demonstrated the value of coordinated international legal support in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.

What Our Team Said

Cesare McArdle, Commercial Partner, commented:

“This was a really exciting project to be involved with. As a sporting fan myself, getting to work on a major international sporting event was great. There were various challenges faced along the way and a lot of legal elements to tie together given the number of jurisdictions involved, but these were all navigated, and the project was a huge success.”

The Team

The project was led by Cesare McArdle, Commercial Partner, with support from the wider Commercial Team.

Whether you’re supporting major international events or expanding your global footprint, our Commercial Team provides the legal clarity and coordination needed to operate compliantly across jurisdictions.
