Samuel French
Solicitor
Sam is a Solicitor in Herrington Carmichael’s Corporate team, specialising in banking and finance. He advises lenders and borrowers on mid-market financings, including acquisition finance, refinancing, development lending and structured finance arrangements.
Sam joined the firm in 2022 as a Banking Paralegal, completed his SQE apprenticeship and qualified as a Solicitor in November 2025. Having worked on both banking and M&A matters throughout his career, he has experience at every stage of a financing transaction.
Outside of work, Sam is a keen sportsman. He played rugby from a young age and throughout university and now enjoys playing some very mediocre padel and golf.
Recent matters
- Advised on a cross-border £23 million refinancing of a multi-facility funding structure secured against a diverse asset base, including trade receivables and intellectual property.
- Represented the borrower on a £14.5 million buy-and-build facility.
- Acted for a financial services company, as borrower, on a £9.1 million assignment and refinancing.
- Supported a consolidator of financial services businesses, as borrower, on a £10 million acquisition facility.
- Advised a fintech payments solutions provider, as borrower, on the refinancing of its existing lender with two new lenders, one of which was based overseas.
- Advised a family office on bespoke template lending documentation, which has since been rolled out across its acquisitions.
