The Immigration Health Surcharge reimbursement

The Immigration Health Surcharge reimbursement

It has been announced that the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) reimbursement scheme has now launched.

There is a list of qualifying criteria that must be met to successfully apply for this refund:

  1. You must have paid the Immigration Health Surcharge for your current visa;
  2. You must have worked in an eligible health or care role for at least (an average of) 16 hours per week during the six-month period since 31 March 2020.

Reimbursements are paid in 6-month instalments, and applicants will need to reapply every 6 months to continue to be reimbursed. To claim the refund, you will need to provide supporting evidence including copies of your payslips for the 6-month period you are applying for a reimbursement for. The refund will only cover the IHS you have paid for from 31 March 2020 onwards.

If you meet the above criteria, you are also entitled to claim a refund for your partner or dependants. When applying you will need the following details: full name of main applicant; IHS number; payslips for the 6-month period you are applying for; the payment method that was used for the initial IHS payment; and, if applicable, dependant’s details.
