Visas extended for frontline workers

Visas extended for frontline workers

Doctors, nurses and paramedics with visas due to expire before 1 October 2020 will have them automatically extended for one year so that they can focus on further assisting the nation’s recovery from the coronavirus.

The extension to NHS visas will be automatic, there will be no fee attached and it will be exempt from the Immigration Health Surcharge.

The extension announced today will apply to around 2800 doctors, nurses and paramedics and will also apply to their family members.

The number of hours student nurses and doctors can work have also been relaxed to allow more staff to be on the frontline.

Student nurses will have an extension of time within which to complete their nursing exams.
