Hannah King

Legal Director, Employment

Hannah is a Legal Director in the employment team with experience of acting in contentious and non-contentious matters for clients across a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, pharmaceutical, technology, retail and waste management. She advises employers and senior executives on the full spectrum of employment law issues, combining technical expertise with a pragmatic and commercially focused approach.

Hannah qualified in 2009 and joined Herrington Carmichael in 2020. She previously trained and qualified at a leading national firm before moving to a well-regarded regional practice.

Hannah has extensive experience in managing employment tribunal claims and workplace disputes, including unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing and breach of contract claims. She also advises on the enforcement of post-termination restrictions and other sensitive employment issues involving senior employees and executives.

In addition to providing day-to-day HR support on disciplinary and grievance matters, absence management, redundancy, performance and capability issues, Hannah advises on employment-focused data protection matters. This includes supporting organisations with data subject access requests (DSARs), employee privacy concerns, workplace data complaints, employee monitoring issues, and the development of employment-related data protection policies, processes and documentation.

Recognising that formal workplace processes are not always the most effective route to resolution, Hannah is also able to support organisations through workplace mediation. She works with employers and employees to facilitate constructive dialogue, repair working relationships where possible, and help resolve workplace disputes at an early stage.

Hannah is experienced in devising and delivering training on a variety of employment and workplace compliance topics, including Diversity, Equality and Inclusion, Flexible Working, Disciplinary and Grievance Investigations, Recruitment, Termination of Employment, and employment-related data protection issues.

She also advises on the employment aspects of corporate transactions, including business acquisitions and disposals, TUPE transfers, outsourcing and insourcing projects, helping clients navigate employment risks and achieve successful outcomes.

  • Acting for a software company to successfully obtain an interim injunction against a director for breach of contract and fiduciary duties;
  • Acting on the employment aspects of two business acquisitions for the same client which ran concurrently and completed simultaneously;
  • Delivery diversity and equality training to the entire workforce of a client following an allegation of sexual harassment from a former employee;
  • Advising an automotive manufacturing company on the employment aspects of the outsourcing and then insourcing of a commercial operation relating to the storage and transportation of its goods.
